A Heartfelt Clean-Up and a Gift to Nature
Volunteers from Bhuj and Mandvi Inspire Change at Hamirsar Lake
The heart of Bhuj, Hamirsar Lake, received a much-needed breath of fresh air this past Sunday, thanks to the tireless efforts of dedicated volunteers. A powerful coalition of organizations and individuals came together to tackle the growing issue of litter, demonstrating a collective commitment to preserving the city’s natural beauty.
The initiative, spearheaded by Secure Nature, Ekta Disposables, Bhuj Nagarpalika, and Bhujvloggers, saw 22 passionate volunteers roll up their sleeves and dive into the task of cleaning the area near Hamisar Ramdhun. The sheer volume of garbage collected – an estimated 250-300 kg – served as a stark reminder of the challenges faced in maintaining the cleanliness of our public spaces.
A significant portion of the debris consisted of disposable plastic items, particularly drinking water packaging, plates, spoons, and glasses. This highlights the urgent need for responsible consumption and waste disposal practices.

And then, a truly remarkable act of selfless service unfolded. Amidst the organized clean-up, a man, claiming to be an Air Force soldier, took it upon himself to tackle the floating debris within the lake itself. Without hesitation, he swam into Hamirsar Lake and meticulously collected over 50 kg of garbage. He didn’t seek recognition, didn’t pose for photos, and didn’t wait for applause. He simply did his duty and left, leaving behind an awe-inspiring example of dedication and civic responsibility. His silent act of heroism added a powerful dimension to the day’s efforts.
The message from the volunteers was clear: Respect the dignity of our lakes and rivers. They implored residents and visitors to reconsider their behavior and embrace a more responsible approach to waste management. “We request you not to throw garbage anywhere and arrange water, fodder and houses for the birds,” they emphasized.

Furthermore, the spirit of community support was evident throughout the day. When it came time to distribute the birdhouses, the Bhuj Traffic Police stepped in to assist. Recognizing the importance of the initiative, they facilitated the distribution, allowing volunteers to safely and effectively reach residents near the roadside. This collaboration highlighted the collective effort needed to make a real impact.
This initiative serves as a powerful reminder that preserving our environment is a collective responsibility. By combining clean-up efforts with acts of kindness towards wildlife, by witnessing the extraordinary actions of individuals like the Air Force soldier, and through the support of community entities like the traffic police, we are inspired to do more.
Let’s take their message to heart and commit to keeping our surroundings clean and providing a safe haven for our feathered friends. Every small action counts, and together, we can make a significant difference. Let’s join the movement and ensure that the heart of Bhuj, Hamirsar Lake, continues to thrive for generations to come.
